Chelsea Old Town Hall

Internal and external restoration of a splendid Grade II listed Victorian building, Chelsea Old Town Hall.

We recently completed the final stages of a three-year refurbishment of Chelsea Old Town Hall, a Grade II listed late Victorian building in the Royal Hospital Conservation Area.

The works included phased refurbishment across multiple floors as well as associated public realm improvements.

Planning consent involved liaising with English Heritage to seek and gain approval for aesthetics, materials used and protection of listed features of the building.

Together with the Council, we carried out two rounds of public consultation with an outcome of overwhelming support for the works.

Key project requirements were:

  • Maintain the District Registrar’s service throughout the construction
  • Ensure a thoroughfare route to the lending library
  • Ensure all temporary provisions that were made were compliant with the Disability Discrimination Act 1995

Our approach throughout was to collaborate and work in partnership, resulting in an exceptional completed project; our client and their stakeholders are delighted and praised our team for “outstanding work! It has been a pleasure working with Ark.”
